Abstract: Micheline Resco (b.1896) was a Rumanian-born Parisian portrait artist best known as the mistress and then second wife of John J. Pershing, Commanding General of the American Expeditionary Forces during the First World War. Donald Smythe, SJ, a Professor of American History at John Carroll University and a Pershing biographer, acquired Resco’s letters and other materials in the 1970s. This collection contains letters, telegrams, photographs, greeting cards, event memorabilia, speech typescripts, and clippings, as well as financial and legal papers documenting Pershing and Resco’s romantic relationship from their meeting in 1917 until the general’s death in 1948.
