Jesuit Archives in the US and Abroad

Jesuit Provinces in the United States have traditionally kept their own archives as extensions of the office of the Socius. The Jesuit Archives & Research Center (JARC) currently holds the collective memory of seventeen past and current administrative provinces of the Society of Jesus in the United States. These include the Buffalo, California, Central and Southern, Chicago, Chicago-Detroit, Detroit, East, Maryland, Midwest, Missouri, New England, New Orleans, New York, Northeast, Oregon, West, and Wisconsin Provinces. In 2000, the archives accepted the records of the governing body of the Society of Jesus in the US, the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States. While JARC does house some Maryland Province records, a large body of materials from the Maryland Province continues to be maintained at Georgetown University.
