Abstract: The Institute of Jesuit History was founded on June 11, 1936 by president of Loyola University, Chicago Samuel Knox Wilson and Jesuit Father Jerome J. Jacobsen. The Institute attempted to trace the roots of the Jesuits in America through the discovery and collocation of primary source documents as well as historical scholarship. Institute of Jesuit History Collection contains the administrative papers of the Institute as well as the professional papers of its Jesuit members, namely, Ernest J. Burrus, Gerardo Decorme, Jean Delanglez, Gilbert J. Garraghan, Jerome V. Jacobsen, and William E. Shiels.
